As has been mentioned on the BBC a few times, William, Catherine and baby George have just toured around New Zealand; starting and finishing in Wellington. Yesterday, a small group of us head down to Civic square to join the crowds hoping to catch a glimpse of the royals in the pouring rain. We got there early so managed to get a spot right at the front, where I proudly hung my Union Jack.
You could hear when Will and Kate had arrived (it was too cold and wet for George) as the crowd whooped and cheered. The wait was definitely made worth while when Prince William came along our row and shook our hands. He commented on our strategic positioning under the bridge and had surprisingly soft hands. Kate went around us and shook hands with those further along. We then went round to see them get in the car and drive away; ready to board their flight to Australia.
My vow never to wash that hand quickly failed when I went to the bathroom at the cafe afterwards but the memory certainly won't fade so fast.
The rest of the week has been fairly relaxed as my tests have finished until after the break so I've spent time catching up with friends and attending numerous food based events. Both Monday and Sunday were spent baking ready for potlucks (everybody brings a dish). On Sunday Liam and I made tiramisu then on Monday it was an international potluck so I used my Union Jack cupcake cases to make some lemon cakes. On Tuesday my halls put on a bagel evening where I got to meet up with lots of my international friends before they all leave for the Easter break. As a final farewell before my flat mates head off to the South Island for two weeks we all went out for Italian last night. The flat seems pretty empty now as it's just Liam and I left then I'll be setting off for my field trip on Saturday to the Abel Tasman for a week.
I'm hoping the weather will improve slightly as it's pretty horrendous at the moment and I don't really want to map geology in the pouring rain. I won't have internet for a while now so Happy Easter everyone! Hope you all enjoy the Easter weekend.
